UCF Community Council enhances communication and, consequently, community relations with stakeholders who are proximate to the University of Central Florida’s east Orlando campus and who are most likely to be impacted as the university evolves and matures.
June 2013: Tour of Career Services and Experiential Learning with Lynn Hansen
Career Services and Experiential Learning provides full-service, comprehensive career development guidance and job search assistance to UCF’s nearly 60,000 students while assisting potential employers in reach their recruitment goals. During their tour of the state-of-the-art CSEL facility with director Lynn Hansen, Community Council members learned how Career Services is connecting local businesses with highly-qualified students to fill their full- and part-time positions.
March 2013: Annual State of the University Update featuring President Hitt
2013 is an exciting year for UCF as the university celebrates 50 years of education and community excellence and partnerships. What started out as a small technical college among the scrub pines of East Orlando, now boasts a campus with unparalleled classrooms, award-winning professors and stellar sports complexes. President Hitt celebrated his 20th year as UCF’s president last year, and under his leadership, enrollment has nearly tripled, the number of doctoral degrees awarded each year has increased eightfold, research funding has increased from $28 million to $133 million a year, and UCF has founded its own College of Medicine. At this meeting, Dr. Hitt provided his annual update on reached milestones, and what lies ahead.
November 2012: A conversation with Dr. Paul Jarley, new UCF College of Business dean
Dr. Jarley began serving as dean of the UCF College of Business in July 2012. He came to UCF from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he served for the past five years as dean and professor of management. Prior to that position, he was the Senior Associate Dean and the Gatton Endowed Professor of Management at the University of Kentucky. He has also held faculty and administrative positions at Louisiana State University and the University of Iowa. Dean Jarley shared his goals for developing the CBA’s identity as a business school and delivering a workforce that meets the needs of local employers.
June 2012: Introduction of Todd Stansbury, new UCF athletic director
Todd Stansbury, a former college football player and most recently, the executive associate athletic director at Oregon State University, joined the UCF family in March 2012. UCF president, Dr. John C. Hitt, said at the time, “As UCF transitions into the BIG EAST, Todd will lead our athletics programs to a new era of success on the national level and build on our student-athletes’ achievements in the classroom.” AD Stansbury shared his vision for the growth of UCF’s athletics program and his student-athlete philosophy with Community Council members. Following the meeting, council members toured UCF’s baseball facilities.
December 2011: Grand opening and tour of Pegasus Health with Dr. Ralph Caruana and Linda Smelser
Dr. Ralph Caruana, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chair of Clinical Sciences, shared the vision for UCF Pegasus Health and its significance as it relates to the College of Medicine’s strategic plan. Pegasus Health, the college’s new faculty clinical practice, is located off University Blvd., and serves as an outpatient medical center where the college’s physician-educators will practice medicine. With a focus on delivering relaxed, efficient medical care, Pegasus Health provides cutting-edge medical expertise with an emphasis on your wellness and preventing illness. Community Council members also toured the facility, which uses state-of-the-art technology employed by the very professionals who are training the next generation of physicians at the UCF College of Medicine at Lake Nona.
